Chloe Roy Medium Motley Grey Bag Review
I’ve worn this bag for a couple of months now, so can provide a full practical review. As it’s such an expensive piece I thought it was worth providing a review, if any of you guys were thinking of purchasing a Chloe bag, you want to make sure it meets your priorities and needs.
For me personally, it is an investment piece, bought specifically for going to interviews and for feeling more confident at work (see my post about how to stand out at work). I bought it for £800 from TK Maxx, so it is the most expensive piece of fashion I’ve EVER bought. As I’ve progressed through my career I’ve felt the need to elevate my wardrobe to match the salary I’m earning and more importantly to look like I’m earning what I should be earning (i.e even higher, wink wink!). WARNING: Never buy fashion you cannot afford and would need credit for.
PROS
1.) It’s clearly a well made QUALITY bag. The leather is thick and sturdy. The suede on the front of the bag adds an additional touch of luxuriousness, however there is not too much suede where it would be hard to keep clean!
2.) The SIZE IS PERFECT for my laptop (to the millimeter!). My work laptop is 30 cm by 20 cm, and fits very snug.
3.) It looks BEAUTIFUL with the gold accent signature Chloe hoops and zip. The brand is clearly Chloe but does not shout out too brashly.
4.) The ZIP design and detail is perfect, as it allows the bag to completely open up as if it were a jacket which allows you to fit more things into your bag than normal .
5.) It has enough separate COMPARTMENTS to keep you organised:
Small inner zip compartment for credit cards/oyster cards.
Medium inner flat pocket for phone.
Front Outer large flat pocket for store easy to reach items.
6.) The COLOUR is a beige grey colour. As a NEUTRAL colour it will match most outfits. I think it will work lovely against a white shirt, especially with the gold accents.
7.) Included is an additional cross body strap. It’s nice and wide with a number of belt holes to adjust the length of strap.
CONS
1.) This could be a game changer for you…. The bag for some reason isn’t that comfortable, particularly if you’re carrying heavy items in it, such as a laptop. I’m still working out how to improve this, maybe I need to get the strap shortened. I’ve noticed that because the bag is quite stocky I have to stick my hip out to wide side more, and that can’t be great for the spine. When the bag isn’t carrying my laptop it’s fine.
2.) The leather is a soft grain leather so can mark and scratch relatively easily. So far I’ve not made any big marks on it, but sooner or later I will.
3.) If the bag is packed full, the inner hardware i.e. inner zip, and inner compartment fold will press against the leather and create an indent which shows through on the other side. As it’s the back of the bag, its not such an issue. To avoid this i think you just can’t put any round, bulky things in your bag, stick to flat items.
CONCLUSION
For me its a keeper. My personal objective was to buy a designer investment bag to essentially look the part for a senior promotion. The bag does tick that box without looking overly brash and show offy e.g. some LV bags. However if what you’re looking for is a comfortable bag and you’re making long walking trips to work and need to carry a heavy laptop, I would not buy this bag. When I wear this bag, I’ll tend to leave my laptop at work, however it IS still useful that it can carry my laptop and A4 sized papers, if I do have to take work home with me. I’ll continue to try to find ways to make the bag more comfortable by potentially shortening the strap. Will update you all!
